This morning we had our WIC eligibility interview.
Since we are poor, and Leah’s breastfeeding, we qualify. That means they gave us a bunch of coupon vouchers good at grocery stores (not all of ‘em, but most of the big ones) for certain types of food, like milk, cheese, cereals, etc. We also got some vouchers for produce at the Farmer’s markets. All is all, we’re very pleased, and grateful. We hope that will take care of somewhere between a third to a half of our monthly food budget, and allow us to spend more of our money on cadillac cars, like other welfare mothers apparently do, at least if you listened to the man Americans recently voted the Greatest American every, edging out Martin Luther King, Dorothy Day, George Bush, or even John Howard (sorry, Australians, you know he’s really just America’s Australian Deputy).
But, the WIC program was started in….Minnesota, back when we were still a lefty-liberal enclave, the home of Paul Wellstone, and the Work People’s College! Thank goodness!
This afternoon, we go to our open house meeting at the Edina Family Center, to get everyone introduced and acquainted.
